Let me start out by saying this is not your standard Personal Finance book, it’s more about motiving and investing in yourself, rather than giving you specifics on what to do with your finances. If you’re looking for a personal finance book with specific business models to follow, look elsewhere, but if you enjoy motivational speaking related to self-improvement and learning to get into the mindset of being the very best, this just might be the book you were searching for.
The key point I take away from this book and the reason I feel it’s important enough to write a review on, is that Grant Cardone absolutely nails it on the head when he says that the key to success is to invest in yourself and to never stop learning! This cannot be stressed enough. The only way you’re going to get away from your 9-5 job is by continuously educating yourself, and having the guts to break away from what the average Joe is doing. Educating yourself does not mean spending 10’s of thousands of dollars on a degree, but rather spend a few thousand to read and study as many books as you can find on the topic you are passionate about. Want to become a pro in Value Investing or Real Estate? Then get out and find every book you can on the topic and start reading. If you read 300-500 pages a day on that topic, you will be able to safely invest and reduce the pitfalls that uneducated investors run into. If you follow the advise outlined in Be Obsessed or Be Average, you too can have it all.
Mr. Cardone may hate me for this next part, but according to this book, hate is not always a bad thing! Overall, I give the book 4 out 5 stars, and the only reason I dropped it from a 5 to a 4 is because Grant Cardone’s mindset towards spending money might be detrimental to new investors. I agree with him 100% on educating yourself, but still think you should keep a frugal mindset, at least when you’re starting out. Sure, once you get to 20 or 30 million, there’s no point in pinching pennies because you can’t take it with you!
Go out and Be Obsessed!
